Love it! Let’s do this in libraries, why not?

Sweet. Totally sweet. This was in my head too! I love it when a plan comes together….

Good, good, good! The more of us that have this in our heads, the more we’ll either get things done ourselves or encourage others to work on what we might not be able to make happen on our own. Librarians of the world unite for 2.0 features like ________!!! :)

Love that idea–reminds me of Shelfari or Library Thing also.

These are such great ideas, but, what do we do about the privacy laws that govern libraries?

That is a huge issue, TM and it is something that REALLY needs to be addressed. On part of addressing it that I always think about is the part our users/patrons deal with every day. Patrons go elsewhere to get content all of the time. If these other places can manage privacy, why couldn’t we (and do an even better job). A list of books someone checked out really isn’t that different from a list of electronic files consumed. People have already decided they want this content. People also tell us they want to get the content from us (libraries), if only we would offer it to them effectively. So, it seems logical that we just figure it out. I’d love to hear more about what you think!
