Thanks everyone for your comments. Did you all catch Jessamyn's numbers? Almost 4,000! And I think Jenny Levine has over 30,000! Walt's numbers might not seem that high, but I'll bet he's had 20X as many people read his stuff as the rest of us combined. The man has written 15 library related books! (Including his most recent self published title!) When they speak, people listen! Happily, they almost always say things I'd want the world to hear loud and clear.

Thanks Chrystie and DLK! And Rossana, I'm especially honored to have a visitor/friend from a Puerto Rican library. SO very cool! Thanks for reading!

i read libraryman via direct feed to one of the custom tabs on my google homepage, which has multiple tabs and multiple feeds; i'd add more (because i like it so much better than any web-based feeder) but google seems to have stopped me at six. i also subscribe through google-reader; the second tier of my sub's, i guess. i'm not sure how either of these numbers are accounted for in the stats you'all're talking about, but i'm happy to be no. 401 if it pleases you! :)

as for my own stats, i feel like i /should/ be paying attention, but i'm not. i think you're right that the sub's you have are deserving of good content, so i like the spin on your following the numbers: more numbers = greater responsibility to fulfill the purpose of your blog with meaning and integrity.

which i think you do, and with style, MP, so congrats on this milestone! :)

I just checked Bloglines today. Since I don't use it, I rarely check it. I do check the stats from my websites directly. My host has a pretty good stats package set up so it's easy to log in and look at pageviews and stuff. Doing that actually lets you know how many people are reading your site via the feed [as opposed to by just going to the web address, or maybe reading it via a post from somewhere else]. I also use a plugin for wordpress called bsuite that does some stats stuff. My bloglines number is 3829 [one of the real benefits to having had a blog for eight years, no one unubscribes, even though I'm sure many quit reading :)] and I have to say that I don't know how to check feedburner.

"Do you ever pay attention to it?"

I can't imagine using Bloglines and NOT having an egofeed--and checking the numbers. And I can't imagine using Feedburner and not checking the numbers. So, yes to both, at least weekly.

"Do you ever post it?"

I'm certain I've written about it, if only in conjunction with questions as to overall-feeds-to-Bloglines ratios and silly visitor counts. Mine? About the same, actually: 469 Bloglines (if I'm adding correctly), 122 Feedburner, and the latter seems to vary a lot. My next "landmark" post will be hitting 2,000 comments...when/if that happens.

I'm celebrating with you - (to the tune of the CanCan): "da da, dadadada da da, dadadada, da da, dadadada da dadadadadadada" (and repeat ad infinitum).

Coolness.
