facebook Dev Platorm BIGWIG07 Presentation
Whew! Just finished, and you can check it out by following this link.
Here’s what it is about:
“I have a presentation to share with you about the new facebook developer’s application. In actuality the presentation is really about how this tool has huge potential importance for libraries. Naturally, the tool and it’s functionality are covered here, but the larger principles that apply to library futures, ILS systems and patron engagement with and within the online library environment are the real reasons to understand what is discussed in the presentation. It’s stuff that is worth know for sure! Here’s a screen shot of the introduction. The real file plays as a “movie” and can be found by clicking here. I hope you find it useful!

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to get ahold of me. My contact info can be found on my web site/blog: www.libraryman.com
**Thanks to WebJunction for hosting this presentation and for sharing the software needed to create it. WebJunction has tools like this that you can use too!**
Great presentation! It’s truly amazing how facebook has exploded with activity in the past month. I’ve been a member for a couple years and it’s been pretty quiet — up until last month. Your presentation was very information (I like the laughing and enthusiasm in your voice).

Great presentation! Thanks for putting the time and effort into creating it and sharing it with everyone. The BIGWIG project is such a great idea. Wish I could be in DC, but having these presentations online is the next best thing.
I’ve been enjoying the ‘new’ facebook. Am going to look at the developers platform now and see what kind of trouble I might be able to get into!
Have fun in DC.

Interesting. Your posts convince me that I have to catch up on this Facebook thing (sigh — too much!). Have you seen this post on the drawbacks of this model? He argues that programming platforms for every social networking site will create a buttload of work for organizations, including libraries, trying to connect with their respective audiences. He also likens it to the walled garden approach that AOL and compuserve tried to implement back in the 90’s.
Kottke’s post is interesting, and I agree that those concerns are valid in many ways. However, the open nature of much of this sort of work/activity/community may keep the whole AOL thing/theory from becoming true. That and the whole AOL story itself being a part of the motivation to keep things as open as possible…
I guess I see it like this; facebook has one architecture, but they don’t control the concept. The *concept* of opening functionality is what gets me excited, not a particular brand (tough props to facebook for getting it straight “their way” with a solid *proof* of concept, and for being in the market’s face very effectively).
