Corny as it sounds, our society is based on civic engagement and education; and the library is the best organization to provide those building blocks of democracy. The library is also a totally cool place and welcoming for all - a rare attribute in our society. We need committed individuals who believe in what the library stands for and also who are the most flexible and good-hearted characters on the planet. The ability to see a variety of pathways for engagement, being willing to try some or all of them and learn from the results is critical. The willingness to respect the needs of all customers and try to find unique and personal ways to serve those customers is what it is all about. Being dedicated to making a difference in the lives of our users, no matter what that difference is or what form it my take, is our future.
